I had a wonderful time moving students in and hanging with my friends.
I attended the Warm Welcome Move in Event at Centennial Place. Some skills that I improved were my communication skills and collaboration skills. We communicated effectively with the new students and parents by asking them for their room number and helping them move their belongings there. Helpers worked in teams of two to help move students in effectively and we collaborated effectively with each other and the new students and their parents to get students moved in in a timely manner. Something I learned about the community was how diverse it was majors wise. I helped over ten students move into their dorm and I do not think a single person had the same major. I made great connections with other helpers and met many new students and their families during the Warm Welcome. I plan to continue helping with moving in in the future as I had a wonderful experience. Warm Welcome allowed me to meet a bunch of great people and make strong connections with them. An unexpected challenge we encountered was the number of loads that some students had to take to their room. This took multiple trips to get all the stuff to the student’s room. We overcame this challenge by having the student help us while their parents moved the car so the drop-offline could proceed. Fellow volunteers would also pitch in and help with students that had a large load of items. Overall, we overcame the challenge by communicating with each other and working as a team.
