SOAR Afterschool Program - Daily Program Volunteering

At SOAR, I volunteered on a Tuesday so it was club day! I got to help the teacher in charge of the slime club. Before the kiddos came in, we had to do a lot of prep to figure out the perfect recipe to make the slime. We also had to strategize the least chaotic and messy way to set up everything. The kids had the best time making the slime and were so excited to have something they made to take home. After clubs were over, I helped in their classroom while they had silent reading time. I then got beat in a game of Uno during free time.

At first, we were all outside playing a variety of sports, including soccer, volleyball, and basketball. Afterward, everyone met in the main room, where each grade was dismissed to their activity. I was with the second graders, and we watched a video that taught about force before doing an activity. The kids each got to use a golf club to hit a ball and see a demonstration of force in action, they really loved this. We then read a Halloween story and had some free time. Overall, it was another great experience!

I thoroughly enjoyed volunteering at the Bayyari site! We had free time outside, did a house competition with actives that included water relay, tug of war, and popsicles. Overall, I really enjoyed my time at Bayyari and getting to meet new kids!!!

Today at SOAR, the children were split into groups depending on what activity they signed up for. Some of the groups being basketball, crotchet/art, engineering, etc. I was paired with the group who were creating monster trucks for a craft. I was glad to help each one of them bring their creations to life!
