Working with the surgical residents at this workshop was more than I could have asked for. They are all extremely knowledgable and kind teachers. I was so amazed by the profound empathy and patience they demonstrated as they taught me different skills. It's so rewarding to finally, after failing many times, complete a skill successfully; even more so when you have someone a few steps ahead of you in life cheering you on.
In my second season of Girls on the Run, I fell more in love with being a coach. While in medical school, I sometime forget "the point." It's always one test after the other, one more application, one more rank to move up. But when I work with GOTR, I see that "the point" is what these girls represent: laughter, friendship, acceptance, confidence. I see it in them every week, and it is my great joy to play even the smallest part in helping to cultivate those traits in them. My girls effortlessly pull each other along and work the hardest they possibly can--I know that if they can do that at 8 years old, I can emulate that in my own life.
