Warm Welcome 2024

I learned many skills by helping with University of Memphis move-in. We used time management and efficiency to make move-in easy for everyone. I learned to solve unanticipated problems like assisting students find lost belongings or managing logistics. I also improved my interpersonal and communication skills by positively and professionally dealing with students, their families, and university staff.This service helped me comprehend on-campus housing transition problems. It highlighted students' different backgrounds and circumstances, including those who may be financially or emotionally stressed. It also stressed the necessity of creating an inclusive and supportive workplace to make everyone feel welcome and respected.I made valuable connections with university staff and volunteers that could help me later. These contacts could lead to leadership, university involvement, or professional networking. Learning to work with others will also help me in my future, especially in nursing, where collaboration is essential.Our service made move-in organized, inviting, and stress-free for students and their families, benefiting the organization. This boosted Housing and Residence Life and set a supportive tone for new Memphis students. Traffic management and coordinating with late-arriving students were unforeseen challenges. This required flexibility and quick thinking to avoid delays and accommodate everyone. Moving big goods was physically demanding, but teamwork made it manageable. This experience was rewarding and highlighted the need for a welcoming campus. Helping students feel at home in this new phase of their lives was rewarding.
