Once again, I had the pleasure of working with Memphis Animal Services, and our pup this week was Ms. Lucky! Having had the opportunity to work with the animal population of the city of Memphis, each dog I have the pleasure of taking on a field trip teaches me something new. By allowing these dogs exposure to the rest of the University Community, where we frequently take them for walks, or even posting them on our IG pages while with them increases their chances of finding a forever home. Memphis Animal Services wants to ensure that they can keep as many animals from being the victim of euthanasia as possible, but with the shelter consistently at max capacity, these field trips allow them the opportunity to intake more fur loving balls of fun! Because I have only recently been involved with dogs, I always work in a team to ensure the safety of the pop, and that the most love is given to the pup. This allows me the opportunity to learn more about how each dog might have lived before coming to MAS, even just by watching them play around. Personally, each service confirms more than my first dog will be from MAS. I have formed personal emotional relationships with dog that make it so hard to bring them back, especially knowing what might await them. However, I look forward each weekend to making another pup smile, and hopefully helping them find a forever family.
I directly benefited the Memphis Animal Services community by trying to find homes for animals in the shelter. The service was directed towards the animal shelter population. They are always eager to have volunteers that will spend the day with some of the dogs from the shelter. I developed my media skills by effectively advertising the dog that I went on a field trip with. I learned of the importance of trying to find a home for the dogs in the shelter. As well as taking pictures and giving the best descriptions of the dogs that I had for the day. I worked as a team for this service. I worked with my friend during this service and we took turn walking our dog. But we both equally spent time with our dog and gave her lots of pets! Being able to work as a team made the experience even more fun but also gave the opportunity to advertise our dog to more people. This service impacted me because I am able to understand the work that goes into caring for the dogs. But also making sure to show the best of the dogs that are on the field trips.
This service was able to provide media exposure to one of the dogs at Memphis Animal Services. The population impacted by the service is the dogs at the Memphis Animal Services. The group is always appreciative of the volunteers that help out with the field trips. They always encourage us to take plenty of picture and give a description of our time with the dogs. I believe that this service did align with my values. As I love working with the dogs and being able to potentially help them get adopted. I learned about the importance of taking picture and telling the person overseeing the field trips about my experience. But also the need to find homes for not just the dogs but animals in shelters. A lot of shelters face over population issues and need to find homes for the animals. This service contributes to their mission of keeping together families when they can. Or creating a new family with a pet from Memphis Animal Services.
