Back at MAS this weekend, I had the pleasure of working with Ms. Morgan, a 2 year old pitbull. I have to say of all the dogs I have taken on field trips thus far, she was the most eager and willing to get in the car and get the party started. In fact, every pup looked excited to leave the kennel this weekend, so I'm sure they're starting to brag about being taken out. As the primary sheltering agency in the city of Memphis, Memphis Animals Services strives to provide the best care for all animals in-between homes. My service with Memphis Animal Services aligns with my personal beliefs and values, because I want to provide a voice for the voiceless. Advocating and creating spaces for these pups to experience what their every day could be like is an opportunity I cannot pass up. Each week, Ana, Emily, or Leah oversees the dogs heading out, and as volunteers at Memphis Animal Services, they always provide a welcoming environment that prompts me to continue coming back. I intended to continue volunteering with MAS, even once I matriculate this Spring, because I know MAS is where I will find my first doggie love, and I will continue to help advertise the animals at MAS so they can find their forever human love too.
Hung out with sweet Peay for the day. She was the sweetest, most loving pup. On our walk she did not pull on the leash and we did not hear a single bark or whine from her the whole time we were together. At first, she was uncertain about the car rides or stairs, but got used to them shortly. She is easy to fall in love with, you just need to meet her! This was a great experience and I recommend everyone participate in a MAS Field Trip Day!
During this field trip, I had the opportunity of spending the day with Morgan. The service that I did was able to impact Memphis Animal Services by providing Morgan with a fun experience. But also advertising her on my social media to possibly get people interested in her. It required me taking Morgan out for the day and getting to know her. I also took lots of pictures so that I could give a brief description of my time with Morgan for the day. This is beneficial to helping shelter like Memphis Animal Services to get possible adoptions. They are always appreciative of people taking the dogs out for their day and giving them nice treats. This service taught me the importance of finding the best way to showcase a dog's personality. I think the posts on their Instagram and their website could possibly play a role in who decides to possibly adopt them. I was able to work with a team during this service. I think this provided Morgan with more people to play with. While also giving her the opportunity to meet new people. This service impacted me because it made me realize that there are so many dogs with so many amazing personalities. Yet, people aren't able to experience their personalities or give them a chance. I think capturing photos and writing descriptions about them is so helpful in possibly getting them adopted.
