SOAR Afterschool Program - Daily Program Volunteering

Open Opportunity

During my time volunteering at the SOAR after-school care program, I had the opportunity to spend time with different groups of kids and help with a variety of activities. I first broke off with the cheer group and helped them practice stunting and work on learning some of their cheers. It was really fun to see how excited they were to practice and how they encouraged each other while they were learning. After that, I joined another group of students who were watching Percy Jackson since they had been reading it together. It was cool to see them connect the movie to the book and talk about the characters and scenes they recognized. Overall, the experience reminded me how important after-school programs are for giving kids a space to explore their interests, work together, and enjoy learning in different ways.

I arrived to volunteer with SOAR, they were having Thursday fun day. I sat with some kids and colored with them. We talked about how their day was and they eventually got dinner. They were allowed to play outside until their parents came to get them. I love getting to meet new faces!

I arrived to volunteer with SOAR during the last couple hours of the day. The children were told to play outside until their parents came to pick them up. Children were playing on the playground, the basketball court, and soccer. I watched and played with the children on the playground. I played tag with them around the playground. I also talked with two girls that were doing cartwheels. We talked about cartwheels and connected about Cheerleading. I learned about the children and enjoyed meeting them all.
