I was scheduled to work 11–2. I arrived at 10:45 and took a few minutes to fill out the waiver. Turns out all 25 lunches had been handed out by 10:50. I was asked if I wanted to work in the Community Closet and I said sure, but they didn’t need me so I just went home. Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
It was a disappointing experience. I signed up for the herb garden but was told that we would be weeding the day lily beds instead. I was really looking forward to working with the herbs. The first half hour the leader spent talking about the history of the garden and the upcoming Alice in Wonderland exhibit. I weeded for a half an hour and left at 10. She sort of scolded me for not having signed the hold harmless agreement. I tried to explain to her that I knew nothing about it and did not see it when I registered for the herb garden. She seemed stressed, but I felt unwelcome. Another volunteer told me that Tyler is wonderful to work with, so I will try to seek him out.
