It was a really cool event. However, when I first got there everything as all over the place. There would be times were it was unclear what I was suppose to be doing. It was still pretty cool even with that going on. I was about to meet different business and learn about stuff in the community. I probably would’ve done a different shift so I could’ve seen more
I had the opportunity to help out at our home meet before I had to jump. I wasn't assigned a big job because I was jumping both days. However, I was able to help with hospitality and leading people to check in. This was very important because it helped keep our meet moving smoothly. Also, I had to be a flag girl for the relays. This was a last minutes job, but was very important. I had to make sure none of the teams went out of the exchange zone, which would help keep a fair meet.
I volunteered with this organization before, but this time I helped out with a different part. I worked packaging food for the homeless. This consisted of crackers, peanut butter and jelly, and granola bars. This would be packaged in bags and passed out later. I enjoyed doing this and would like to do it again.
I had the great opportunity to help out the Mariposa organization. This organization helps package and deliver feminine products to homeless women across the city. It is a new non-profit, and I am so happy I got the opportunity to help out. I would like to do it again, and maybe help deliver the packages next time.
Over winter break, I had the opportunity to work with Alabama Heat. Alabama Heat is a local track and field club that trains children for AAU. I was apart of this year while I was in middle school, and I was excited to be able to get involved. I was with Coach Jeff, the head coach, for multiple days, and assisted him with timing children during their workouts and watching to make sure they were doing everything correctly. Alabama Heat is a year long club, so I hope I can help out again.
