I went to Panama on a medical mission trip with the Global Brigades Organization this past January. A team of students from the U of A traveled together to set up clinics, provide basic health care, and educate the people of Panama on health and wellness skills. We served 426 patients over the course of 3 clinic days. Global Brigades is an international program that aims to aid in sustainable development of global health and is also the largest student led medical and dental movement for global health care. Our goal going into this opportunity was to spend a week working alongside local and American doctors, exchanging medical knowledge in a region that has very little access to healthcare. We also had the privilege of providing clean, running water to a community that had no access to such utilities prior to our arrival. It was a humbling and life changing trip.
