This experience gave me a new perspective on the kinds of resources available to people dealing with homelessness. The kitchen does not always have people available to cook large quantities of good food. They rely on volunteers to help facilitate a smooth dining service.

Through my service experience at Room in the Inn, I developed and improved skills such as communication, teamwork, and compassion. While serving dinner, I learned how to interact respectfully with different people and work efficiently with others to make sure everyone was served. This service helped me better understand social issues such as homelessness and food insecurity in the community. It showed me that many people rely on organizations like Room in the Inn for meals and support, and that small acts of service can make a meaningful difference in someone’s day. Building relationships with other volunteers and the people being served helped me see the importance of community involvement. These connections may influence my future involvement by encouraging me to stay active in service and support programs that help people in need.
I plan to continue volunteering with this organization because I enjoy helping others and being part of efforts that address food insecurity. Serving meals allowed me to contribute in a direct and meaningful way. This experience aligned with my personal values and beliefs because I believe in helping others and supporting programs that provide care and resources for people facing difficult situations.
