I gained a deeper understanding of service and improved my skills by volunteering at the Room at the Inn Memphis for the Serving with a Smile brunch. The skills of cooperation, time management, and empathy are all necessary for volunteers who want to meet the needs of their community. Working with a small team to prepare and deliver meals to adults and children really amplified those values.
My appreciation of the simple yet deliberate acts of compassion was highlighted during this event. It was heartwarming and motivating to see the appreciation of people we served, which reminded me of the importance of giving not only food, but also respect and consideration.
The experience was particularly fulfilling because Room at the Inn Memphis's mission matched my ideals of compassion and service. It aligns with my dedication to helping others in my community while receiving a reminder of the importance of empathy, connection, and cooperation.
I did it this summer at room in the room, i have a picture inside of the jcc of me doing it. we cleaned, made beds, dusted the different rooms. the hardest part was making the bed of the bunk beds; especially the top bunk
