I had an amazing time giving back to the community with hot breakfast this morning!
This service benefited the impoverished and underprivileged by putting together and handing out meals. During this event, I served those struggling financially and personally in the Memphis community. Additionally, I helped put break down boxes, clean the area afterward, and direct people to whom to speak about obtaining the necessary information to apply for subsidized housing. The volunteers and those being served were incredibly kind and I felt like I was included during the event.
I learned that people in our community struggle for all kinds of reasons and that receiving help is often stigmatized. I also learned that others in the community are extremely generous with their time and resources. Catholic Charities of West Tennessee values hospitality and service, and through this event, I embodied these values when serving our community. I have the chance to work with a great team. I felt welcomed, and that the time and service I contributed was valued.
I distributed hygiene products and meals to those struggling financially in the Memphis community. I also helped organize food bags and future food bags by the date they needed to be distributed. Additionally, I directed people to resources for people struggling with housing assistance, work, and other food shelters. During this event, I directly served the disadvantaged Memphis community. The volunteer coordinators were extremely organized and those we were serving were polite and grateful. I hope to continue to volunteer with this organization as I enjoy being able to directly help those struggling. The skills I gained during my service include patience, organization, and team contribution. I believe that these types of organizations are pillars of our community and enjoyed supporting the effort.
Always a pleasure to volunteer with Catholic Charities!!
