Starting in January, I worked with the team as a student coach and manager. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays for 2 hours each day, I worked on timing practice for the distance athletes. I would also come in weekly to submit the itinerary, travel roster, and CARA compliance reports. On weekends, I would travel with the team to the meets and assist the other coaches and athletes when needed. That looked like assisting with getting meals, capturing races for the athletes, and many other things. I have had such an amazing experience working with my team!!
I had the opportunity to work as a host for the presidential gala. I was tasked with greeting the guests as they made their way into the ballroom. Once everyone was seated, I helped a section of 6 tables make their way to get food in an orderly fashion.
I had the opportunity to volunteer at Marshall Elementary’s “Tailgating with Dads” event! It was a very cool event where fathers and male figures came out to spend the day doing activities with their children. I was tasked with helping the families with the games station in the library.
I created a timely care account and now have access to doctors and counselors 24/7. This is helpful because there may be times after hours when I may need medical advice.
I participated in the Unity Walk with the athletic department. I also helped with some setup. This walk was impactful as a student-athlete here at Claflin because it highlighted athletes' mental health and the importance of taking care of it. It was also cool to be able to do the walk with my teammates!
I volunteered to work the University of South Carolina football game versus OKC. My job entailed working one of the entrance gates on the home side and helped spectators find their correct seats and answered any questions that they may have had.
I participated in the March to the Polls for the local Orangeburg election. It was very impactful to see the school community come together to vote. It was also good to be a part of spreading awareness for the importance of voting.
