I improved my ability to work with strangers and be inviting to others that I do not know much, if anything about. My impact increased my ability to sympathize with those who are in a lower socioeconomic standing than me. Many of these individuals are in the scenarios they are in not from lack of hard work, but rather from factors out of their control, such as employment and monetary issues. I worked in a team setting to help feed the homeless and less fortunate. By doing this it provided a strong and moving moment of strangers working as a team to attempt to aid those who are less fortunate than themselves. My impact went towards serving the mission of the organization by feeding those who are in need of a helping hand. My unexpected challenge was a lot of the cooking was for industrial purposes, which is odd for me considering I typically only cook for a few people, so it was a change of mindset with measurements and attempting to serve that many people.

For this event I was tasked with preparing a meal, serving said meal, interacting with the families staying at the shelter, and cleaning up after the meal, along with other outreach ministries and local leaders. I decided to volunteer with this organization due to one of my colleagues at Rhodes putting this institution on my radar and I also know my way around a kitchen. The cooking portion of the task was fun; I have never helped cook for so many people in my life, so it was a new and unique challenge that took a little bit to get used to, but I quickly grasped the ebb and flow of it. In the kitchen I met some of the most phenomenal philanthropists I have met within the city. I met church congregations, service clubs, families, and other students from neighboring universities, who were all united in giving back the our respective communities. It was very refreshing to be in a room of people who hold the same passion for community outreach that I do. Along with this we met some of the families who were staying at the inn. They seemed to appreciate our kindness and determination to serve them. Overall, out of the many times I served here i would highly recommend this experience. Great staff, great families, and great helpers.

Within this event I arrived to the Memphis Rox climbing gym believing that I would be utilizing their pressure washing system to help clean off some of their rock holds. Upon arriving I was informed that since a majority of the holds had been cleaned, so we we would be doing other projects like installing tint on on office windows and light carpentry. To say the least, it was a lot more fun than using a pressure washer. I learned how to sand wood and I had already installed tint before, but I do enjoy the practice. This opportunity was very cool as the two climbers who were over seeing me let me tour the gym, answered questions I had on rock climbing, and gave me info about the local area known as Soulsville. While I was giving back to my community I felt as though I was being given to with all the information listed above that I had received. I now have a new respect for rock climbing, carpentry, and have more interesting areas in east Memphis to explore. I would highly recommend this experience.

At this event I aided with Hillel's annual mini golf tournament. It was a good time collaborating with them as my fraternity also closely works with them on a regular basis.
The event that I attended was a service event for the local plant sale nursery. I went with another EL in which our job was to corale and distribute the shopping karts. Overall it was rather decent. I was not able to contribute much in my knowledge of plants, but it was nice working outside.
