I worked a tabling event for Lambda Chi Alpha for 3 hours a day for 4 days during our philanthropy week. The proceeds from the coin drive we did went toward Feeding America and the Mid-South Food Bank. I feel like it was a really good opportunity for me to give back. While working at the table I also was assisting the philanthropy chairman of our chapter with the logistics of the events as well. I got the privilege of having conversations with other greek organization members which was a great experience but also a handful of people who have been impacted by the Mid-South Food Bank in their own lives before which made the experience so rewarding. Overall I really enjoyed getting to have conversations with other students and staff on campus as I worked a tabling event.
I was given the opportunity to serve within the Collierville community by mentoring a group of 6th grade guys for the weekend. I worked alongside another student within the Social Change Scholars cohort with me, and we had a lot of discussions with the guys about things such as life lessons. We made an effort to instill different values and ideas within the guys through various games, and team building activities.
I helped set up and served at the can drive that was held by Lambda Chi Alpha for the Mid-south food bank. We collected cans and cash donations and then took the donations to the food bank.
I had a great time having the opportunity to give back to the university middle students by painting in their cafeteria.
Each Sunday I help out in the preschool with 2 year olds at my church before service for an hour and a half. I've missed a couple weeks but I've done it for 13 weeks total. I have learned a lot about giving back to the community and instilling values into the younger children.
