While assisting the EL/SC organization interviews, I was assigned as a Team Leader. My job was essentially to keep my designated group on track through the process and lead them to the correct rooms when we were directed to. I sat through each event they did and I even participated to an extent which I think made some of the interviewees more comfortable. I interacted with other Emerging Leaders and Social Change Leaders from different cohorts while I volunteered. I think that the experience to volunteer during the interviews was very interesting because I ended up doing my interview over the phone instead of in person due to the distance from the university to my home and the timing. I liked doing the true colors activity because I finally was able to understand what everyone meant when they talked about it.
I had a great time volunteering at the bakery. I learned how to package and ring up the baked goods and also got to use my customer service skills by interacting with customers. I was able to answer questions about the baked goods while they made their decision on what they wanted. I also helped keep the area clean by wiping down windows, table, glass, etc. I met the owner's son who also works at the bakery and he was very friendly and helpful. Whenever I needed help, he was willing to give a helping hand. I think Lucy J's is a not place and they support a great cause. I thought it was so cool when I was told that they wee a non-profit, because I didn't know that before hand. I definitely plan on volunteering again during second semester and even in my free time if I have any.
