Caroline Gillenwater

This experience has been a memorable one. For the past couple of months I have been volunteering at Hope Church for the special needs children. I help the kids learn the dances for the upcoming Christmas program. This one is very special because it is in memory of their late friend who was a part of this dance program. This semester I was paired with a seventeen year old girl named Selina. Selina is a smart and bright young girl. She always made my day by coming in and giving me a big hug. She was always eager to dance. When we both got tired, we would help each other stick with it. Selina has become a great friend and I'm so glad I was able to be a part of this amazing program. Seeing the smile on everyones faces while dancing just made me feel like what we were doing mattered. I know we helped them, but they helped me so much more. I have gained a great group of friends while volunteering and I am so thankful for this opportunity.
