Being appreciative of my upbringing while also having empathy for those who may not receive the same support at home is a mission that requires a big heart and genuine compassion. As a former Marshall Elementary School student, I am grateful for how the school helped shape me into the person I am today, inspiring my aspirations and goals in the field of education. Giving back to a school that played such an important role in my childhood is especially meaningful to me.
(On a side note, the leftover candy did not go to waste! I also left candy in the Honors Center for those who stopped by as a small token of my appreciation and a way to spread kindness.)
It takes big hearts, to teach little minds,
Best regards, Morgan Mack
I appreciated the opportunity to give back to our community by providing a special holiday treat for those who may not have the chance to experience it. I was especially excited and grateful for the number of community service hours I pulled from the Halloween bucket. This experience reminded me that giving back with kindness and thoughtfulness can bring joy to others while also leaving you with a rewarding feeling of appreciation.
As I continue to explore politics and learn more about the world around me, I want to better understand the leaders who have the potential to shape South Carolina’s future. Learning more about Jermaine Johnson beyond his campaign videos gives me the opportunity to understand his values, goals, and vision for our state. I am especially interested in how his leadership could help build stronger communities and create positive change for the people of South Carolina.
I learned more facts about fibers and nutrients from different types of food, especially ones I didn’t think of or eat at all because I am someone who is selective about food.
This community service holds more value to me because I attended Marshall Elementary School myself, so it is a school that I’m fond of. I believe giving back to the classroom is important because teachers need the support to create the best atmosphere possible to inspire young students. Donating snacks is a meaningful way to give back and support students. You never know what someone may be going through at home, so providing a collection of snacks can help students feel cares for and supported. I believe that small acts of kindness like this can make a meaningful difference in a school community.
During the duration of my community service, even though it was 2 hours long of services I appreciated learning more about the University on the faculty side of things. I had the chance to speak with previous older Alumni in which who led and spoke highly of corresponding honor students. We were coordinated to fold up papers neatly, adding personal detailed stickers on to envelopes , and gluing the envelopes to seal mail to send out to CU alumni. Overall, this was a great experience to pause and working more hands on during this service that is actually career routed and also noticing how small South Carolina really is because the coordinator attended Claflin University with my grandfather and knew numerous other people within my family.
Being a greeter for Power Hour for me was a hands-on experience where I get to see new faces and greet new people.
