Virtual Volunteer Day

Overview:
Spreading Sunshine’s mission is to serve families impacted by childhood illness. One of the ways we do that is by sending Sunshine Boxes to children across the United States. In May, we are launching new "Birthday Boxes" to help celebrate the birthdays of the children, siblings, and parents we serve. By helping create birthday cards, you will add your own special touch to these packages and spread a little joy to families in the midst of hard times.

This project is to make hand-made Sunshine Birthday Cards for our Sunshine Families and is in honor of the birthday of our Founder's son, David, aka Sunshine, the inspiration behind Spreading Sunshine.

Materials Needed:
Construction paper, white paper, or card-stock
Crayons, colored pencils, or markers
Stickers
Paint/finger paint, scissors, or glue (if you are super crafty), to use to include notes with happy and encouraging birthday messages.

Directions:
What makes a Sunshine Card special is YOU. If you are artistic and creative, you will likely want to design your own card. If you prefer a little direction, we’ve included some templates to make it easier for you. The main thing is to smile, turn on a little music and have fun creating a little sunshine for someone’s special day.

The art may come easy to you, but you may not be quite sure what to write. Here are a few affirming messages to choose from.
-Sending you sunshine on your birthday
-Sending smiles for your special day
-Wishing you a sunny birthday
-You are loved today and everyday
-Thinking about you. Have a bright birthday!

You may choose to write a personal message in your card. Please keep it positive and encouraging. Sign your first name only on your card and where you are from, if you like. It will mean a lot to families receiving your card to find your personal touch. Imagine them knowing you cared to share your sunshine from another state. How bright!

WHAT NOT TO SAY – Please do not write “get well” or “hope you get to feeling better.” Many of the children we serve face life-threatening illnesses.

Mailing/Drop-Off Instructions:
Once you've finished, you can mail or deliver your cards to Spreading Sunshine, 825 Timber Creek Drive, Suite 102 Cordova, TN 38018
