I had to opportunity to help clean the beach at the Wolf River Greenway on Epping Way during the Earth Day event, removing litter, and restoring trails. I learned practical conservation skills like safely picking up trash, and using grabbers, rakes, and gloves. The muddy ground and some heavy debris made the work harder, so we used sturdier tools and paired up to move large items. This experience improved my problem-solving and showed me how teamwork speeds up work and keeps people safe. Seeing how everyday trash can harm wildlife and water quality made the environmental issues feel real and urgent. I also learned how important local volunteers and organizations are for keeping the greenway healthy and accessible. Working closely with others helped me make new connections and learn from experienced volunteers. I feel motivated to keep volunteering with Wolf River and will definitely bring boots or just any type of sturdier shoe next time!
