This event challenged my problem solving abilities because I never knew all it took to maintain plants and the landscape. It takes a mixture of being delicate but also making sure you get everything. I learned that maintaining the Botanical Gardens takes a lot of hard work. I have gained a lot of respect for the people that do it on a daily basis. We worked as part of a team and that really helped throughout the process. Everyone was working in a different area, but in doing that we were able to collectively get the job done. The organization guided us through by providing us with everything we needed to complete the tasks as well as information on what we were doing, An unexpected challenge that I faced was the fact that there is a lot of hard to reach areas of the garden that we had to get. I was able to overcome the challenges because the organization gave us a multitude of tools that helped us aide us in the process.

I had a great time at the Botanic Gardens working with all the customers at the plant sale. Helping all the families with their plants and loading their vehicles were very simple and everyone seemed to be in a good mood the whole day. I also got an opportunity to connect with people in my field of studies.

We were tasked with helping out any customers that needed help with any bags, boxes, and helping move plants into their cars. It was a fun experience that I would do again.

In this experience I further developed the skill to be flexible and adapt to different situations. We did not end up working the plant sale, but instead maintained the grounds of the garden. I also got to build teamwork skills. I learned more about the gardening and environmental communities. This also showed me how much work goes into maintaining the garden for people to enjoy. I plan to continue volunteering here because it feels like I am helping people in Memphis reconnect with nature. I am glad I sharpened my teamwork skills with the people around me.
