It was fun to help the kids make flower pots and play in the dirt bucket

I had a fun time, I enjoyed seeing the kids and bringing to life the trolls, though i do think some of our activities were a little too mature for the kids. Besides the freezing weather it was really fun.

I would say that this event challenged my problem-solving skills as me and my fellow emerging leader Alex had to work with a lot of kids and do mud painting with the kids at the troll exhibit at the botanical garden. The children were getting paint everywhere cause of the severe winds so we decided to use rocks as paper weights so the paper wouldn’t fly away in the wind. I would say that something that I learned/was reminded of was how beautiful Memphis really is being at the Botanical Garden reminded me of when I was a little kid when I used to go with my summer care system. I made some new connections with other students that attended both the University of Memphis and some students from the surrounding area’s high schools. The organization guided us by providing us with knowledge about the troll exhibits as well as activities for the kids to play with and would assist us as needed. An unexpected challenge we faced was how windy it was that day we volunteered for kids’ paintings were blowing all the place and getting all over the kids. We overcame this by implementing rocks as paperweights to help weigh down the paintings so that they wouldn’t blow away.
