Packing produce at Girls Inc. was very fun. The skills that I improved were working in teams and communicating effectively. I enjoyed serving the broader Memphis community and understanding food security issues within the area. The community was very appreciative of us being there, and I worked in a team and built connections with other organizations partnering to give back. During this event I worked as a part of a team to package cabbage, eggplants, and sweet potatoes. I do plan on continuing to volunteer with the organization because the opportunity to provide a lot of food to others is great. People in the community, then came out to pick up the food. It was a great experience to give back to the community, and was very impactful for me to be able to help others. What I would change more about my approach is just enjoying the moment more with the people I am serving and working with and not strictly getting the task done.

We placed an assorted amount of vegetables in bags and placed them in their corresponding containers to help organize them.

I learned several valuable skills while volunteering to package fresh vegetables for the neighborhood. Most importantly, teamwork helped coordinate tasks. I practiced my organizational and communication abilities by sorting and packaging the vegetables and working with other volunteers to achieve our aims.By showing how many communities struggle to get fresh, wholesome food, this event enhanced my understanding of environmental and socioeconomic issues. I learned how food deserts and other systemic inequalities affect health and well-being. It also emphasized sustainable food distribution and local agriculture.Networking with volunteers and community people was great. I may benefit from these relationships by meeting people and organizations who care about community concerns. If I pursue similar projects as a nursing student or professional, these relationships could encourage public health collaboration.By supporting Girls Inc.'s objective to empower people with healthier options, our service benefited the community. We promoted healthy living and better nutrition by offering fresh vegetables. It was unexpectedly difficult to distribute vegetables evenly. To guarantee community members received a fair share, we had to quickly solve problems and adapt quantities. Coordination with other volunteers was sometimes difficult owing to different paces and approaches to duties, but these moments improved our teamwork. This event was powerful and eye-opening, demonstrating the power of collaborative effort to alter lives.
