I had an absolute FANTASTIC time volunteering at Room in the Inn! In this opportunity, I served dinner to those who resided at Room in the Inn. There were all sorts of people there, and all of them were thankful for the food we served. Darren was the cook the day we went. He was phenomenal. He gave instructions clearly and allowed us to feel comfortable in our position. He talked about why he tried his best to make the best food he could (which he excelled at), and that he wanted to serve food he would like to eat at home. He was exceptionally kind, giving us plenty food to take home with us and instructing us how to do new things. It was my first time using the dishwasher at Room in the Inn, and he showed me how to do it. I went with Abbie, and she also helped me feel comfortable in the environment. She wasn't afraid to get her hands dirty when working, and that helped me feel comfortable doing the same. We were able to do the work twice as fast, and have a smile while doing it.

I volunteered at the Room In The Inn today! I love volunteering here. My service directly benefited the members in my community who are struggling and in need for a meal. Suzie and I pated over 35 dinner plates for families in need and washed all the dishes. Today there was only 1 cook in the kitchen! He was extremely sweet. I remember asking him if he had ever cooked by himself for a full house before. He talked about how some days there would be no volunteers. He would be responsible for cooking, plating, serving, washing dishes, and cleaning all by himself. I was shocked!!! This immediately made my purpose for volunteering at Room in the Inn a lot stronger. I knew from that moment I needed to do whatever he needed me to do to make sure those families were fed in the dinning room. Just seeing the cook smile, while doing what he loves, and putting his love through his amazing food was extremely heartwarming. He inspired me. He inspired me to continue to do what I love, which is helping people. His warm energy and smile inspired me to continue on carrying his energy towards everyone around me. I love Serving With a Smile :) and I will be back again !!
