It was beautiful to work in the park and make it possible for fencing so everyone is safe while touring the park.

I attended the 2022 MLK Day of Service by going to Fuller Park. As someone out of town, I had heard about this state park but it was not a main tourist hotspot that I had on my bucket list while in college. I am so glad I was able to go to the park and get a taste of what it has to offer. While I was there I helped move tires that had been dumped and will be repurposed to pave a new drive in the park. I learned something new about this park and was a part of the process in my first hour of being there. After that was done I moved to help to weed out the bee garden. This was physically a lot of work because the garden was pretty big and the weeds were massive brush entanglements. But with the help of a lot of volunteers we were able to clean majority of the garden. I learned how much my help was valued by the rangers who were so welcoming and kind. They helped us with the work, gave us history on the park, and offered us snacks and drinks. They were very appreciative of our help and I could tell that we were able to make an impact on the park in some way. This experience taught me a lot about teamwork and also about humility and how a few hours of my day made a big difference when I was in conjunction with others. I truly enjoyed working and would love to go back!

During this experience, I went to Fuller Park where I completed community service. While at the park, I pulled grass and weeds from the area that the garden will be placed. This park is one of 3 parks that were built for African Americans. Therefore, this was a great experience to attend and I was able to give back to my community.

During this experience, I actually volunteered at T.O. Fuller Park due to a cancellation, but it was an amazing opportunity. We got to help put up a trail for the park while also learning about the history from one of the rangers. We did a good bit of walking which I loved because nature is one of my favorite things. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience and am always remembered that through doing service, you are not only helping others but also advancing and bettering your knowledge on so many various topics that you might not have thought about before doing service.

It's was raining, but I'm glad I was able to help out. It was a nice change of pace to do some volunteering outdoors in Memphis.
