The day was gloomy, rainy, and a bit chilly. However, that did not stop my boyfriend and I from volunteering to help clean the community of Soulsville. We noticed just how much people throw out trash from their car window as they drive down the street. It is sad that such actions take place, but it helped us realize that by contributing to the community and picking up the trash, it raises awareness and teaches us the importance of not littering. As it rained on us, we continued to pick up trash and noticed a couple of volunteers leave so we gave it another hour until we returned back to Memphis Rox. I am really glad we had the opportunity to clean up the neighborhood and to reflect on the empowerment it left us as we made Memphis beautiful.
