February 2020 - Lucy J's Bakery

During this experience, I volunteered at Lucy J’s. I helped prepare, stock, and sell pastries to customers. This was a great experience to grow my interaction skills throughout life!

I always have a good time volunteering here because of the friendly staff! They even invited me to keep volunteering here even if the shift isn't offered on Volunteer Odyssey, so I will continue doing that. I always enjoy interacting more with my community. Volunteering at Lucy J's Bakery helps with my social skills too. I am able to talk and interact with people more. The day I volunteered was also fun because it was Mardi Gras, and the Lucy J bakery was making a bunch of Mardi Gras king cakes. I didn't even know what king cakes were! They sold a lot of them that day, and I also learned that Crosstown Concourse was doing something for Mardi Gras too. Volunteering on Feb. 25 helped me realize that there are a lot of opportunities in Memphis. There are a lot of activities that I don't even know about yet, and I'm really excited to become more involved in my community.
