About
Are you interested in donating a few hours of your time to help blind and visually impaired people in Iowa? Sign up to read for IRIS! IRIS is a free radio reading service that provides audio recordings of multiple local newspapers across Iowa to thousands of disabled listeners who are unable to read print materials for themselves. IRIS is often their sole source of news about what’s going on in their local community. IRIS volunteers at Drake read the Council Bluffs Daily Nonpareil on weekday mornings when Drake is in session. There is a dedicated audio booth in Meredith with a professional microphone for IRIS volunteers to record a reading on a personal device.
It’s very simple, and we will train you! The whole process - training and reading - takes around two hours. Please sign up if you are interesting in directly helping Iowans with disabilities. After signing up, you will be sent a schedule where you can chose a training time and a reading time that works for you.
