Join us as a special events Museum Greeter on King Days. The Withers Collection will be commemorating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr!

Guest can schedule docent-led tours of the Withers Collection's permanent exhibition Let Us March On and our new exhibition His Dream Lives On.

A Withers Collection Museum and Gallery Guide Volunteer is a creative, imaginative, enthusiastic individual who provides interpretative services to Museum visitors through guided tours and conversations with visitors.  All activities related to the Museum’s mission: to educate the public and preserve the works of Dr. Ernest C. Withers, Sr. and make his work available to the world through digitalization.

The Withers Collection offers you:

  • The opportunity to learn about the history of our Collection, photographic conservation, preservation, and archival processing

  • The ability to work with diverse groups of people

  • The enjoyment of behind-the-scenes preparation and participation in Special Events and Exhibitions


Essential Functions:

  • Greet and admit visitors to the museum according to WCM&G policy

  • Assist in filling and preparing sales orders for shipment

  • Assist members of Withers staff by performing basic administrative and technical assignments

  • Operate computers, printers, and other office equipment as assigned 

  • Respond appropriately and accurately to requests for information and general questions from the public and provide visitors with up-to-date information about our exhibitions and programs


The successful Museum Greeter Volunteer will possess and / or acquire:

  • Familiarity with the works of Dr. Ernest C. Withers

  • Understanding of the history and provenance behind the images in the Collections

  • Knowledge of Withers Collection Museum and Gallery’s history, mission, programming, product offerings, licensing procedures, and shipping guidelines 

  • Ability to apply appropriate problem-solving skills

  • An outgoing, courteous, and polite posture with museum staff and museum visitors, and work cordially and professionally with all managerial staff and employees

  • Ability in following provided material and additional information when giving tours and answering questions


Professional Attire:

Top: Solid Black Polo shirt or Withers Collection shirt (provided)

Bottom: Black pants

Shoes: Comfortable and enclosed shoes or sneakers
