I absolutely loved the experience of getting to volunteer my time tutoring and reading to the elementary kids at Kate bond. through this experience I was able to connect with so many young minds and got to see them actually start to understand what I was helping them with whether that be adding and subtracting or practicing their reading. We also took part in a book drive for the community so, during hours after school my mom and I and a few fellow sigma kappas helped run the book drive and collect books for the under privileged youth in the surrounding neighborhoods.

It was great getting together with my sisters and other in the community to pick up trash along the street. It was extremely eyeopening to know how many people litter and how much trash litters our streets. We were able to pick up a small portion of the streets of Memphis.

It was a great experience to watch the light bulbs go off in the little kids head, and to watch them connect the dots. It proved to be challenging at times to get them to focus however many seemed to improve after the tutoring sessions. We held sessions throughout a week before a big state exam and many showed improvement from their last one.
