I loved doing this project! It reminded me of when my own kids were little and I got to read to them. As someone who has volunteered many times with Room in the Inn families, I can't tell you how special it was to be able to support their program in this way. I LOVE WYXR and took this as the perfect opportunity to introduce my husband to their station so he can enjoy it as well. He's into soulful, Memphis-inspired music and was instantly hooked. So thankful that they are brining these sounds to our city!
Volunteer Odyssey's Virtual Volunteer Day was the perfect opportunity for me to introduce my kids to a variety of types of service. Afterwards, I let them tell their stories about why we were doing this and why it's important. It was amazing to hear what they had to say and instantly made them realize the impact they were making.
To complete this project, our whole family went to a local high school to pick up trash on their grounds. It opened my kids' eyes to how careful they should be with their own trash and to be continuously looking for other areas we can clean up. Thanks, Memphis Rox and Volunteer Odyssey!
My kids had a blast with this project! Not only did they get to be creative and crafty, but it reminded them how fortunate they are to be in good health and that it's important to spend time thinking about those who aren't. That impact will stay with them long past the completion of this project!
