It was bittersweet being in Mrs. Lewis' class for the last time this semester. I've had so much fun getting to know and help the students while getting to learn from and help Mrs. Lewis. On Friday, I got to help organize materials for the students' spelling tests. I got to witness what a spelling test looks like, as well as help grade the spelling tests. Mrs. Lewis showed me her organization process for all assessments and gave me tips on what to do when I become a teacher. I got to make spinners for all of the first-grade classes' math lessons for the following week. After lunch, I got to help with inside recess duty while interacting with the students. I got to watch the students participate in their first Kahoot. It was so cool to see their faces light up and ask if they could do more! When they got back from the computer lab, they enjoyed their snack while finishing the publishing of their writing. It was then the end of the day and I got to say goodbye to them one last time. It was so fun getting to volunteer with Mrs. Lewis' class this semester!

I always have so much fun in Mrs. Lewis' class! This time I got to assist in organizing progress report cards. I also got to watch different assessments take place and how those assessments impact report cards. I got to experience what recess duty is like. It was so fun to watch the students have fun with their peers. After recess, we went inside and I helped during the math lesson by answering student questions and organizing materials for Mrs. Lewis. After math, the students went to art and I got to sit in on a PLC meeting. It was really cool to get to see the behind-the-scenes of teaching, especially since it was progress report time. Mrs. Lewis also showed me how she puts her sub folders and lessons together and gave me some tips on what to leave for a sub. When the students returned from art, Mrs. Lewis turned on a movie and the students had snack time. I assisted by opening snack packages and answering any questions the students may have had. It was then the end of the day. I helped by assisting Mrs. Lewis' car riders by making sure they knew when their ride had arrived. I can't wait to go back in April!
During my volunteer experience with Mrs. Lewis at Jerry "Pop" Williams Elementary School, I was able to assist with assessing students using DIBELS. I sorted math and science activities. I got to sit in on a PLC meeting. I helped organize materials for parent-teacher conferences for the following week. I got to interact with students during math, writing, and phonics lessons. If students had questions or needed assistance, I got to help them to the best of my ability. I assisted during indoor recess by answering students' questions, helping to relocate a spider that was in the classroom, and even played with play-doh with one student. By the end of the day, I was able to assist with the car riders and let students know if their guardian was there to pick them up. Overall, it was a great experience getting to meet and interact with students while helping Mrs. Lewis with daily tasks. It was very neat to get to experience a full school day from more of a teacher's perspective. I cannot wait to go back to Mrs. Lewis' classroom!
