Mia Madison

Mia Madison is the Executive Director of Memphis Tilth. Her food justice activism, food access advocacy, and community garden volunteering started in 1998 with a focus on self-sufficiency. At that time a coalition of advocates interested in building the capacity of local food policy bodies worked to find common ground on policy priorities, generate public support for those policies, educate policymakers on issues in our food system, and advocacy for food systems change. For years, Mia has served as a community activist and organizer throughout the Mid-South region. She has been appointed and volunteers for a host of programs and projects focused on bridging the gap between people and the environment. Her passions are agriculture, environmental justice, equitable access to economic opportunities, alternative, and public transportation, and citizen participation and engagement in urban affairs. Mia holds a Master’s degree in Applied Anthropology and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography both with concentrations in environmental urban affairs; both from the University of Memphis.
