It was awesome to see families enjoy the lights. The hot chocolate was good too. Make sure your phone is fully charged.
I had a great experience planting new trees and cutting down invasive species this past Saturday morning. It was extremely encouraging to see all types of people volunteering and working with great attitudes. The weather was great, the work was rewarding, and the impact that the wolf river greenway will make will be very influential on our city. I would like to do this again.
On the University of Memphis lawn, I played football and got to spend time with people training for the special olympics. I was able to play with other teenagers my age, and some guys who were in their 40's. It was an awesome experience to see how excited they were to play with us. I was able to hear and understand other people's viewpoints who were not similar to me. In addition, one of my teammates named Ron lost his temper because we were losing and I was able to calm him down. It improved my leadership and counselling skills.
I served in the nursery and played with kids around the age of 1. Although I am not a fan of changing dirty diapers, it is always and awesome experience to spend time with kids in their toddler years. The church runs everything very smoothly and there were no issues with the kids besides some crying.
Wrote cards for veterans in the city of Memphis. It was very humbling to think of those that sacrifice so much for others who they don't even know about. It also reminded me of how the little things in life matter and how much they can mean to those they affect.
Spent time with 2nd graders in the classroom, helped them with schoolwork, and played games with them in the gym. Through this experience I was able to see a school system which was very different from my own. It was very encouraging to see the energy in kids who desire to learn. In addition, I gained a deeper respect for all that teachers do in a child's life.
