The alternative break experience overall was so fulfilling and I was able to connect with students, as well as the staff, very personally. However, the organization we worked with "Living Lands and Waters" was amazing in all aspects; its mission, development and day to day impacts. After working with this organization I am now more aware of my environmental impact and it striked a passion in myself to encourage others to be more conscious.
Working every saturday in the month of Feburary going out into the homeless community with food, blankets, umbrellas and hygiene products was extremely rewarding!
The homeless community is such an overlooked part of society and it is nice to see, and work with, students who want to help.
this organization was amazing to work with! worship and serving our hungry neighbors is such a humbling experience that i am thankful i got to be a part of. sharing stories and smiles.
I have worked with food pantries since I was little and moving here I struggled to find a place that had the same values that I hold. With Catholic Charities of West Tennesse I was able to give my time and energy to help those in need, directly. I am extremely passionate about serving those who are hungry and need help and working at this really allowed me to serve with passion.
The carpenter house encompasses all of the qualities that I prioritize in life. They offer a helping hand to those reaching out and that is extremely admirable. This event let me specifically give back to those in need by simply smiling at them and offering them assistance/hospitality.
I worked with Jacobs Well on multiple occasions and always have such a rewarding experience. This was my first impact that had to do with feeding our hungry neighbors and I got to talk to and meet so many cool individuals. People are almost afraid of hungry, homeless/poor people and on this night I was able to contrbute to reversing the stigma and give a helping hand.
going out into my city of memphis and just giving back to the homeless community is one of my favorite activites. i went out and gave blankets to the homeless for a couple of hours each weekend. knowing it was cold outside and knowing they do not have a warm place they can go to, i served to give them a small gift of warmth.
I did this event because I want to get rid of the stereoptype that surrounds homeless people and I wanted to be able to give back to my neighbors that need a hand. In addition, this event allowed me to humble myself and make food for those who need it. Prior to kitchen help I was able to meet and talk to different people who were outside and hear their stories.
Absolutely love volunteering with this organization. It is always so humbling to make the different foods that are distributed to the hungry. Also walking in to the building you meet many people in need who are just waiting to be fed and it is such a great thing when you can help them.
