My crew was largely VA employees, some of which had done this before.
The event was very well organized and went smoothly.
Two criticism with a 6 person crew, few of us got to do the survey, we mostly observed. More 4 man crews with smaller areas might be more efficient.
We cruised in the van, maybe walking some blocks we might find more people. Mostly we asked people waiting at bus stops.
There was no data from previous surveys or intake data from entities that serve the homeless to target areas that homeless have previously been encountered or that they reportedly use.
It felt like we were searching blind instead of having a prioritized list of where the homeless were likely to be.
The attendants at all night service stations might be a good resource too.
