The Epsilon Kappa Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. traveled to Catholic Charities of West TN to serve with their annual cookout event. Unfortunately it rained so guests could not participate in the planned duties but instead helped with food bags, organized the clothing closet and organized the new reading room. As usual, everyone was very kind and it was great to have so many members and non members come out to serve. We even gave donations to the organization for them to then give back to the homeless population that they serve.

I visited Leadership Prep Charter School as Miss University of Memphis to read books and talk about college to students. We talked about the importance of reading, literacy, and plans after high school. The students were very attentive and were most interested in college life. We got to listen to their long term goals and encouraged them to use their resources and connections to get to where they want to be.
I visited Leadership Preparatory Charter School to reach books to students in celebration of Read Across America. After reading books to them we discussed the importance of reading and their plans after high school. I enjoyed how excited the students were to discuss college and their plans to get scholarships and attend top schools around the world. I would definitely visit Leadership Prep again because the students gave me encouragement to continue in in my academic endeavors.
Every week, I volunteer at Memphis Business Academy High School helping seniors prepare for college. Myself, along with my capstone group members Tamera Frierson and Leslie Hennings, help them with FAFSA applications, personal statements, college applications and so much more. It is truly rewarding to help these students who at a point may not have considered college as an option for themselves. We wanted to show them that they can attend college and wanted to assist them making sure they get there.
I visited Hickory Ridge Middle School for their Greek Day program. I was able to interact with the students, faculty, and other members of the Greek community. We were able to show students, most of which were African-American, a different aspect of college that they may have not seen before. We wanted them to understand that we joined these Greek organizations who value scholastic achievement and service to the community. Our goal was to show them that college is accessible and we are here to help them reach that goal.
I visited my old high school, Munford High, and volunteered to do an interactive lesson with their senior classes. I discussed with them college readiness, post high school endeavors, etc. I was able to look into the lives of students who come from small town communities and see what their plans are post graduation. I discussed potential career opportunities with each of them and reminded them that college may not be the next step for everyone. The students seemed to very receptive to me and many said that they are highly considering attending the UofM. I do this volunteer opportunity every year and it always excites me to see what goals each of these students have and their plans to achieve these goals. It is a rewarding experience to give back to the school that helped me make my post graduation plans.
I volunteered at the Memphis Dream Center at the Highland Location of the Life Church. We gather together to pack bags for students in the Memphis area. I enjoyed fellowshipping with people who take time out of their Thursday nights to give back to the community. I always enjoy myself when I volunteer and look forward to coming back.

I visited the Memphis Dream Center at The Life Church to volunteer with their Christmas Outreach program. I assisted with setting up the toy store which is where families in the community could come to purchase inexpensive toys for their children. It was a very rewarding experience to see the many toys that members of the church and Memphis community donated. I had fun getting to meet other volunteer from many different ages and backgrounds coming together to do something for people who may be less fortunate than us. I really enjoyed this experience and plan to volunteer again next year.
