| Description | This hands-on workshop is designed for studio artists looking to scale up their work, as well as anyone curious about the mural-making process. Two 45-minute sessions will be offered, with space limited to 15 participants per session. Participants will learn how to translate small designs into large-scale murals using techniques like gridding, doodle gridding, pouncing, and projection. The session also covers the basics of paint and spray paint, including can control, pressure, cap selection, and working on different surfaces. A dedicated practice area will be available for experimentation, giving participants the chance to try new tools, build confidence, and gain a better understanding of how murals come together at scale. The workshop is led by Kirsten Sandlin, a public artist specializing in murals and signage, who brings her work to communities across the country. A Memphis native, she is passionate about transforming spaces throughout the Mid-South and connecting with the communities she paints in. Please wear comfortable clothing and footwear that you don't mind getting paint on. Aprons and gloves will be provided. Participants may want to bring their own water and bug spray. Please arrive 5-10 minutes early. |
