Event Description
Volunteers arrive at 4:15pm for brief overview of the evening. First-time volunteers must arrive at 4:15 to receive important information. Returning volunteers must arrive before 4:30pm in order to serve guests.
Guests enter at 4:30pm.
Volunteers greet guests and offer conversation until transportation for the guests arrive (between 5:15-5:30pm). Though other duties might arise, the main focus for volunteers is to visit with our guests to help them feel welcome. Volunteers will be in the room with guests while staff handle administrative duties. Your help is central to our mission of "holy hospitality" - having people present to listen to and talk with our guests during their wait helps them know this is a place where they are safe, welcome, and treated with respect. Thank you for helping us serve our guests in such an important way! Sitting and having a conversation with someone might not seem like something that should be considered a "volunteer duty" but it makes a huge difference in the day of someone who has been overlooked, ignored, and dismissed all day, and it helps our staff handle the day-to-day operations knowing that volunteers are helping the guests feel loved.
By 6pm all guests have departed to congregations for shelter for the evening. Volunteers help clean and ready the space for the next day.

A brief reflection time is offered at the end to share your experience.

***Notice to Volunteers: Our bathrooms are currently out of order due to the need for replacement plumbing. There are no restrooms available on site.***

Volunteers are an important piece of our nightly process. We depend on volunteers to attend and complete shifts. If you sign up but are unable to attend your volunteer shift, please cancel your registration as soon as possible to make room for waitlisted volunteers.

PARKING: The parking lot is owned by an outside company and is a pay lot. There is also metered parking on Exchange Street.
