Event DescriptionRoom in the Inn @ Emmanuel United Methodist Church Gym - Saturday evening shifts (Sunday morning volunteer opportunities are listed as a separate event.) 
During the months of November through March, every Saturday evening we turn the Emmanuel UMC Gym into an Inn for up to 15 guests.  We serve dinner, provide personal hygiene products and a clothes closet, and offer Holy Hospitality.  Various positions and shifts are available.  Please join us by volunteering your time or donating supplies or money for supplies to the ministry.
We can use volunteers of many talents, including food preparation and serving, driving the van, preparing the gym before the guests arrive and cleaning up after they depart, laundry, or just listening and talking to our guests while they are with us!
You may sign up for more than one "shift" (task) during the event, if desired.

Each date has the following shifts

Evening Van Driver & Carpenter House Volunteer 3:30PM 6:00PMArrive at Carpenter's House downtown by 4:00 PM and assist with guest check-in until time to leave (5:15) and transport guests in EUMC van from Carpenter's House to EUMC. Commercial driver's license NOT required. Drivers must be members of Emmanuel UMC for insurance. Drivers must call Andrea Quinn @ 754-6548 by Friday noon the week before shift to be added to insurance. Pick up keys and trip directions in gym. Depart EUMC no later than 3:40 pm. Upon arrival back at EUMC, park behind the church next to the gym door. Make sure guests have left no trash or personal items on board, turn in guest list at registration, and turn in van keys to Coordinator. Dinner not included.1/1Over
RITI Volunteer Coordinator 4:00PM 8:00PMSupervise all set-up and preparations for arrival of guests. Assist and answer any questions from volunteers. Welcome guests before dinner and go over any instructions. Verify that kitchen is cleaned and all is ready for Sunday morning's breakfast before leaving. Dinner included. Set-up Crew 4:00PM 6:00PMSet up beds, chairs, partitions and storage bins for guests in the gym. Prepare beds (sheets, blanket, pillow). Set up tables and chairs for dinner. Set up registration table, toiletries table, drink table. Detailed directions provided. Dinner not included.5/5Over
Dessert Cook & Drop Off 4:15PM 5:30PMProvide a home-cooked dessert for 15 people. Drop off in gym Saturday afternoon between 4:00 and 5:15pm. Dinner not included.1/1Over
Greeters / Waiters for dinner 4:30PM 7:00PMSet up welcome area on provided table and set the dining tables (table cloths, silverware, condiments, etc.) and the drink table. Welcome guests, assist with sign-in at registration table, assist with drawing numbers for clothes closet, serve guests dinner and drinks, eat and talk with guests, monitor toiletry table. Clean up dining tables after dinner. Dinner included.1/6Over
Main Course Cooks 4:30PM 7:00PMBuy ingredients and prepare main course for 25 people (coordinate menu with 2nd volunteer). Make coffee and tea. Plate food for servers. Assist with kitchen cleanup. Dinner included.1/2Over
Prepare Lunch Bags 4:30PM 6:00PMPrepare on-site lunch items in large ziplock bags. Boil 4 & 1/2 dozen eggs (will be used for lunch bags and breakfast). All items are provided, and detailed instructions will be supplied. Dinner not provided.1/2Over
Side Dish Cook - Green Vegetable 4:30PM 7:00PMBuy ingredients and prepare green vegetable side dish, in coordination with Main Course, for 25 people. Assist with plating food for guests, assist with kitchen clean-up. Dinner included.0/1Over

Kitchen Clean up 6:30PM 8:00PMClean up the kitchen after dinner is served. Make sure kitchen is clean, and breakfast set up and lunches prepared for the next day. Close down the kitchen for the night. Dinner not included.1/2Over
Overnight Hosts 8:00PM12:00AMSpend the night with our guests. Lights out at 10pm. Lock exterior doors. Wake up guests at 6:00am on Sunday morning. Instruct guests where to put sheets (in pillowcase) and blankets. Encourage guests to start eating breakfast by 6:15am, and make sure they pick up their lunch bag and are on the van by 6:45am (make sure they have left no personal items behind before the van leaves). Dinner not included. Shift is 8pm on Saturday through 7am on Sunday.0/2Over
