About

John P. Freeman K-8 Optional School is participating in the STARS (STEM All aRound uS) Program Winter 2025. STARS is a community STEM exposure and exploration program for students Grades 6-8. The STARS Program has three main objectives (the three E’s): 1) To Engage students in STEM extra-curricular activities, 2) encourage students to Explore their STEM identities, and 3) Empower students to harness and master their STEM abilities. The STARS program is a partnership program between Dr. A. Nico West at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), John P. Freeman K-8 Optional School, and will include participation in the Healthcare Occupations Students of America (HOSA) to meet the three E’s for the remainder of the 2024-2025 year. Students will participate in activities centered in STEM and compete in local and if eligible, state competitions centered in a healthcare field to solve complex, real-world STEM-related problems.
