Volunteer in the Garden

Join us for our weekly volunteer sessions at Carpenter Art Garden's urban farm in Memphis. Comprised of two vibrant growing spaces: our East Garden, where we grow crops for the community, and our Sankofa Garden, dedicated to African and African American heritage crops and foodways.

No experience necessary — just bring your energy and a willingness to get your hands dirty! Each week looks a little different depending on the season. You might be weeding, watering, and tending beds one week, and helping with planting or harvest the next. Whatever the task, you'll be contributing directly to a working farm that feeds and educates our community.

What to expect:

• Hands-on garden work alongside our urban farmer and fellow volunteers
• A mix of routine upkeep and seasonal tasks (planting, harvesting, bed prep)
• A chance to learn about sustainable growing and, in the Sankofa Garden, the stories behind the crops we grow
• A welcoming, community-centered environment for all skill levels

When: Tuesdays, 5–7pm
Where: 281 Carpenter Street

What to bring: Closed-toe shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, and a water bottle. We'll provide tools and gloves.
