About

This link is for returning volunteers only. First time volunteers must register here.

If you'd like Just City Staff to accompany your court watch session, register for a Monday, Wednesday, or Friday and email us to let us know you'd like staff to join you.

CW Volunteer blurb: Did you know that you have a constitutional right to observe court proceedings? The United States constitution guarantees public access to courts, but citizens are often discouraged or obstructed from attending. The Just City Court Watch program encourages public accountability through volunteer observation. With your help, we are able to track what’s really going on in Shelby County courts and outline areas in need of improvement. All court watchers are trained in what to expect from a court room environment and what to look for in the actions of judges, attorneys, prosecutors, accusers, and those accused of crimes.
The court room belongs to the public, but the proceedings happen behind closed doors. Become a Court Watcher and bring the truth to light.

Please note that Courtwatch shift times are flexible. We encourage volunteers to observe for at least one hour per shift when possible, but you are welcome to stay for as much of the court session as your schedule allows.
