Blue Trees Environmental Art Installation

The Blue Tree Environmental Art installation is a community engagement artwork, where volunteers help artist Konstantin Dimopoulos color trees using a blue, biologically safe, water-based pigment. It's not PAINT it's technically a liquid chalk. It's a special kind of chalk (Ultramarine Blue and Calcium Carbonate if you want the technical info) that the artist developed that can be applied to trees. It is very similar to the non-toxic chalk you see kids using to create art along sidewalks. 

The colorant is harmless to all flora, fauna, insects, waterways and humans and will gradually fade from the trees over several months. The purpose of this art installation is to raise awareness of the global issue of deforestation and the importance of trees to people and their environment.

Whether you've never had anything to do with art before or if you're a regular gallery-goer, we invite you to become a part of this immersive artwork. 

Participants will assist the artist in applying the biologically safe colorant using brushes and rollers. While the non-toxic colorant washes away with soap and water, the City will provide aprons and latex gloves to those who want them. Children are able to participate; however, they MUST be accompanied by an adult at all times.

You'll be working outdoors with watercolors, so please keep the following in mind:

• Wear old clothes and long pants
• No open-toed shoes
• Bring a snack and some water
• If the sun is out, wear a hat
• Choose weather-appropriate clothing
• Bring bug spray
