About
The Dorothy Day House provides transitional housing for families experiencing homelessness. Our goal is to help every family that comes to us find and furnish their own new home. You have the opportunity to be part of our mission by volunteering to move a family out of the Dorothy Day House and into their own apartment.
Volunteers will meet at the warehouse (3306 Winbrook Dr) to load a U-Haul with the family's furniture for their new home. After that, we will go to the family's new apartment to unload the items and help set up the furniture. This move will require lifting heavy furniture and carrying it for short distances, possibly upstairs. Volunteers are required to have their own transportation to the warehouse and to the family's apartment. The apartment address will be provided upon sign-up. We estimate it will take between 2-3 hours to complete this move.
Dates and times are subject to change. Please only sign up for this opportunity if you intend to show up on the day of the move. It is very important that we have volunteers to help with the move - without you, it wouldn't be possible!
